If you are running a CMS on your website, probably sometimes you would like to backup it and keep it in a safe place. But seriously, how many tons of files do you have to download to do a backup? There’s a little trick if you want to save time and space. If you don’t have the possibility to ask a snapshot of the machine you can use this simple idea.
Download a php webshell like this one (personally the best I’ve ever seen).
Now upload this file as php file to your hosting root directory and open it in a browser window.
ATTENTION!!! If you don’t put a password to protect it remember that an hacker could find it and run commands on your hosting space!!
Now let’s zip your website with the following command (if your file is named “shell.php” or edit accordingly):
zip -r website-backup.zip ./* -x shell.php
In this way we can compress in a zip the whole web space and, when ready, we can download in a single shot on our pc having a backup compressed.
REMEMBER THEN TO DELETE THE WEB SHELL FILE AND THE ZIP WHEN THE ZIP IS READY!
I think it is a smart way to backup your data.
Enjoy your backup with this trick 🙂
